Coastal Ballers Basketball launches weekly sessions in Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft
A new community basketball programme for primary-aged children has launched through East Norfolk Sixth Form College, creating a welcoming first step into the sport and a clearer pathway into Great Yarmouth Basketball Club.
Coastal Ballers Basketball begins at East Norfolk today, Tuesday 4 August, with a second weekly hub launching at Ormiston Denes Academy in Lowestoft in September.
The programme expands East Norfolk’s successful Coastal Ballers football offer into basketball and is aimed primarily at children in School Years 2–6 who are new to the sport or not yet ready for regular team basketball.
A fun first step into basketball
Coastal Ballers sessions are designed to give younger children a positive and enjoyable introduction to basketball.
Through fun activities and games, players will develop fundamental movement and basketball skills including running, jumping, catching, dribbling, passing and shooting. Sessions will also help children build confidence, work with others and enjoy being active.
Boys and girls are welcome, no previous basketball experience is needed, and parents and carers may stay to watch.
Sessions cost £4 each and are booked individually, so families do not need to commit to a full block.

The new home of our introductory sessions
For families who previously attended the club’s ENergize sessions, Coastal Ballers will feel very familiar.
The focus remains on fun, movement, confidence and fundamental basketball skills, with many of the same coaches continuing to deliver the programme.
The main difference is that introductory sessions now sit within Coastal Ballers and must be booked through the Coastal Ballers website rather than through Coacha.
The East Norfolk session has also moved from Thursday to Tuesday, 5:00pm–6:00pm.
A clearer basketball pathway
Coastal Ballers provides an accessible community introduction to basketball, without any expectation that children must progress into competitive teams.
When a player becomes ready for the next step, Coastal Ballers and GYBC coaches can help signpost them towards the most appropriate Great Yarmouth Basketball Club Development opportunity. From there, players may progress towards Development or Performance teams as their skills, confidence and experience grow.
However, Coastal Ballers will not be the right starting point for every child.
Players in School Year 4 or above who already have basketball experience and are actively looking to train towards playing team basketball should normally begin directly within the club’s U11 Development programme.
U11 Development sessions take place at East Norfolk on Mondays and Fridays, and new players can book a free first session through the club website.
