JUNIOR TEAM TRIALS - 2026/27 SEASON

We are now inviting players to register for our Junior Team Trials for the 2026/27 season.

These trials are for players interested in representing Great Yarmouth Basketball Club in competitive team basketball next season, across our U12, U14, U16 and U18 teams.

Players do not need to be the finished article - we are looking for attitude, effort, coachability and a willingness to be part of the club.

Trials are free to attend, but players must book their place in advance.

PARENT INFORMATION

The first 30 minutes of each trial session will include a short parent/carer information presentation.

Players will then take part in coach-led drills, skills work and gameplay, giving our coaches the chance to look at players in a team environment.

PERFORMANCE TEAMS

Performance Teams are for players who are ready to commit to regular training, competitive fixtures and representing Great Yarmouth Basketball Club in a more demanding team environment.

Selection is based on a combination of attitude, effort, coachability, current ability and readiness for the level of competition.

For the 2026/27 season, our junior performance teams are expected to compete in:

U12 Mixed - Norfolk Basketball U12 Mixed Regional League

U14 Boys - Basketball England U14 Boys National League East III Conference

U16 Boys - Basketball England U16 Boys National League East I Conference

U18 Men - Norfolk Basketball U18 Men’s League, with the aim of moving towards U18 National League if the group is ready

DEVELOPMENT TEAMS

If a player is not selected for one of our performance teams, we will aim to offer a place in one of our Development Teams.

Our Development Teams compete in the Norfolk Youth Basketball League (NYBL), with monthly tournament days from October - April:

Team basketball requires commitment, but it is also a brilliant opportunity for young players to develop their skills, build confidence, make friends and be part of something bigger than themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. Players do not need to be the finished article. We are looking for attitude, effort, coachability and a willingness to learn.

    Some players may be ready for a Performance Team, while others may be better suited to one of our Development Teams.

  • Players should bring:

    • suitable basketball/sports kit

    • clean indoor trainers

    • a water bottle

    • any medication they may need, such as an inhaler

    Players do not need to bring a basketball.

  • Parents/carers should attend the information presentation at the start of the session, which will last around 30 minutes.

    The on-court trial itself will be closed to spectators, so parents/carers will not be able to stay in the sports hall to watch the session.

    This helps us create the right environment for players and allows coaches to assess players fairly.

  • Each trial will include coach-led activities, skills work and gameplay.

    Coaches will be looking at how players respond to coaching, how they work with others, their effort level, decision-making and current basketball ability.

  • Where appropriate, we will aim to offer players a place in one of our Development Teams.

    Our Development Teams compete in the Norfolk Youth Basketball League at U11, U13 and U15 level, giving players the opportunity to keep developing, gain game experience and work towards future opportunities within the club.

  • Coaches will review each age group after the trials and we will contact players/parents with next steps as soon as possible.

  • Players selected for a team will be expected to train regularly, attend fixtures where selected, represent the club positively and show good attitude, concentration and effort.

    Further details around training, fixtures, costs and expectations will be covered during the parent/carer presentation.

  • Yes. The trials are free to attend, but all players must book their place in advance.
