Frequently Asked Questions

Need a question answered? You’re in the right place

Below we have answered some commonly asked questions from parents and new members. If you can’t find the answer to your question please submit a question using the form at the bottom of this page.

Where are sessions held?

All of our sessions are held at East Norfolk Sixth Form College, Church Ln, Gorleston, NR31 7BQ.

Make your way to the rear car park (accessible from the left side of the college on Church Ln). You will see our welcome sign prominently placed on the left side of the glass corridor at the end of the car park.

Can I bring my own basketball?

We have a large number of age-appropriate training and match balls available for use. However, if you have your own ball that you wish to use for warm-ups and individual practice this is fine provided it is the correct size for your age group.

If your do bring your own ball please ensure your name is clearly written on it in permanent marker, and we recommend it is not shared with other participants. Please note all personal items are brought/left at members own risk.

What size basketball should my child use?

Whilst your typical high street sports shop will be happy to sell you a size 7 (full-size) adult basketball, these are not suitable for the majority of junior players. The recommended sizes as used within the club, and recommended by the governing body, are listed below. If you are considering purchasing your child a basketball please speak with us and we will be happy to make you a recommendation.

Boys      Girls

Age 7-11                      Size 5

Age 12-14          Size 6     Size 5

Age 14+                Size 7     Size 6

What should I wear to my first session?

DO wear non-marking trainers and sportswear e.g. shorts and a t-shirt.

DO remember a full water bottle to keep hydrated.

DON’T wear any loose items of jewellery/bracelets/watches/earrings/necklaces etc or you will be asked to remove them before the session. Where stud earrings cannot be removed they must be covered.

What type of footwear do I need?

Wherever possible we encourage members to wear trainers that provide ankle support/protection rather than skate shoes or astroturf-style football boots. For your first few sessions, any non-marking sports shoe is acceptable provided the laces are tightly tied.

Note for parents: Despite what your basketball-mad child may try to tell you, there is absolutely no need to go out and spend obscene amounts of money on the latest pair of Air Jordan’s, LeBron’s or Curry’s. Most high-street or online retailers have a very good line of affordable basketball shoes as/when your child has decided to commit to the sport.

Can I change into my basketball shoes courtside?

We recommend that members bring only the minimum amount of personal items. However, we recognise that some older members have dedicated basketball footwear they may wish to bring separately. This is fine provided footwear worn into the hall is clean and non-marking. Please note that all personal items are brought/left at members own risk.
